A ‘Renewall’ of the Bass Maltings, Sleaford

The project proposes the rejuvenation of the derelict and stagnant Grade*II Listed Bass Maltings, investigating how its future may manifest; reviving the site as an integral component of Sleaford’s socio-economic narrative. the design perforates the eastern WALL of Block 09 as an extreme proposal for what the derelict and stagnated Maltings require for their future RENEWAL. Hence, ‘Renewall'.

  • Investigating a duplicity of function and occupation which evolves in response to the community's requirements. The Maltings area have potential to act as a catalyst to the regeneration of Sleaford.
  • Perforating Block 09’s eastern wall, blurs the threshold between Maltings and exterior. The project solves Sleaford’s dangerous connectivity problems and links into the existing green spaces.
  • Using the chimney as a nucleus the performance spaces, rehearsal studios and cafe orientates themselves toward the Maltings, using the Maltings as a backdrop for its external seating and stage.
  • A sustainable timber frame structure emulates the internal roof structure of the maltings buildings. Timber, slate and Cornbrash limestone entwine the design into the urban fabric and geology.
