Arc1003m – Edge Conditions, Bridging the Land and Sea

The proposal for the project is a new RNLI station and sea recovery unit at the port town of Folkestone. In the previous project the themes of “exposure, enclosure and transition” were studies and used as a tool kit within this project. The piece aims to be the liminal transition between the land and sea, aiming to connect or disassociate users from their location dependent on their needs.

  • Axonometric visual demonstrating the program within the structure, the individual stages of recovery and their relationship with one another.
  • The projects massing consists of an external concrete shell to embody the theme of protection. This is contrasted with the softer warmer timber and steel from interior that sits gently within.
  • An Internal Visual of the public restaurant, embodying the notion of exposure to the sea. Demonstrating panoramic views of the ocean.
  • Section AA represents a complete cut through of the building, its internal spaces and external, along with solar strategies and circulation.
