Back to Nature – The Nuclear Epiphany

My project plays on the irony of a former nuclear testing site that’s been reclaimed by nature. My intention is to generate an epiphany towards our co-existence with nature in a place that’s motivation was to wipe out life on a large scale.

  • Image of Site concept - I unpacked the site of Orford Ness using the Fictional Frameworking stages from my concept.
  • Image of Masterplan - This drawing shows the layout of scheme with the devices and their associated sensory augmentation.
  • Image of Section - The departure building has an intimate relationship with the landscape, Water is invited into the main space providing a unique experience for the visitor.
  • Image of Section in 2100 - A projection of the building in the year 2100 with the sea level rise of 2.5m, Water is now flooded the lower portion of the building and access is required via bridge.

Architecture allowed me to focus my passion for drawing into a career path. Sketching is how I best describe a project's design challenges as well as the responding to them.
