Goodnight Mister Tom

These are two of my cover designs for the 2020 Penguin Student Design Award. The first is a simpler take on the journey taken within the book, from London to the village of Little Weirwold. The second is a watercolour and charcoal rendition which focuses on the start of the train journey that takes place just before the beginning of the book.

  • The titling and imagery was hand-cut with a craft knife from black card.
  • I used blue to evoke some of the previous covers of Goodnight Mister Tom.
  • The titling from my blue cover was adapted to work alongside this cover.
  • St. Paul's Cathedral towering above the smoke of the blitz, this cover focuses more on reality.
