Parasitic Extraction: Mining for Regeneration

This projected involved a construction waste management plant and educational facility in the context of Leeds to tackle the problem of a linear material cycle. The aim of the project was to redefine this linear process into a circular cycle reducing the need for recourse mining, whilst reconnecting the South-bank area to Leeds city centre.

  • The main visual for the project looked to understand the concept of transparency within the project, to raise awareness for alternative methods of material recycling.
  • This internal render aims to develop a relationship between man and machine and how they can work together to redefine what happens with material waste.
  • The exploded drawing outlines the material store which is central to the scheme which is then connected to educational facilities and the construction recycling plant.
  • The speculative render aims to explore the potential of storing processed materials and reinvesting into the urban landscape.
