The Summer Play Project Handbook

The Summer Play Project Handbook has been designed to enrich the playtime of children aged 4 to 11. I discovered that children in many primary schools lack space and encouragement to be creative and imaginative. Play is important to the development of social skills, independence, confidence and many other skills and my design aims to educate parents and encourage children to partake in free play.

  • Someone holding a brightly coloured book - the first section of The Handbook contains information on free play, laid out like a children's lift-the-flap book.
  • Someone holding a brightly coloured book - to preserve memories and ideas, there are several journal pages for both parents and children to write on with a different question or prompt on each page.
  • Someone holding a brightly coloured book - the back of the handbook contains pockets to store the Action Cards.
  • Someone holding pink cards up - These cards have an open-ended activity on the front to spark a child's imagination and relieve boredom. On the back is further detail of the activity and the skills boosted through the play.
